Part of a Roman or Late Roman furnace for baking bricks was accidentally brought to light during archeological excavations. This is not the first furnace found in the Lecco area: others were found during building works, but in all cases they were removed.
The furnace found in Capiate, once fully excavated, will be the sole in the province of Lecco maintained in the discovery site. It will be restored and open to visitors, through the construction of a roof and a protection structure.
The budget for the conclusion of the excavation, restoration of the walls and terracotta parts, construction of the roof and the protection structure, signage, amounts to about € 150,000.00
